exhibition of rarities from every corner of United States numismatics; an
incredibly important research item, as all illustrated coins are attributed
to their 1914 owner; 133 pages + 39 pages of illustrations; a scarce item;
one of these just sold at a Fanning sale for over $500! |

edition, #24 of 135; full flexible Morocco leather, interleaved, gilt
lettering on cover, gilt page edges; autographed by Beistle in ink below his
portrait, seven photographic plates; condition note - at some time in the
past, humidity caused small portions of the paper adjacent to the first plate
to stick to it, partially obscuring small portions of several 1794 and 1795
obverses - likely could be remedied |

autographed keepsake) |

a unique and remarkable
numismatic literature relic from the 1986 Milwaukee ANA; Bourne was known to
keep an "autographed" copy of his auction catalogs when held at a
major convention (signed by all the participants he could find), which started
in earnest around 1998… or so I thought; turns out, this concept started much
earlier - look up your Asylum Journal Vol 4 #3, which includes Bourne's
presentation at that NBS meeting - he specifically refers to this exact
prototype, which was passed around the room for attendees to view (and sign
if they so wished); signatures include Armand Champa, Frank Katen, Laurese
Byrd Katen, Pete Smith, Denis Loring, John Huffman, Dan Hamelberg, Vincent
Alones, Gordon Frost, Jim Patrick, John Bergman, Paul Bosco, Byron Johnson,
Cal Wilson, Kirby Brown, R.W. Julian, etc, ect - perhaps Bourne's first
attempt at creating such a keepsake;
[Added later: this was lot #396 of Remy Bourne's sale of 6/13/09,
additionally described as "thick paper and interleaved"] |

final exam bound in; A textbook on minting methods, this in some ways is an
expansion of Breen's Dies and Coinage, a work he held to be important as it
dealt with a topic he felt vital to all coin collectors; It was intended to be used in a course of
study offered by the Institute of Professional Numismatists, but was not
expanded beyond this initial publication;
Important for error research, as Breen lists known errors in some
detail; a rare item, this has a couple minor cover smudges but appears to be
otherwise unused; typically sells for around $200 when it comes to market |

First AMBPR, from the
Myron Xenos library; according to Steve Herrman: "The 9/13/92 edition
was issue Number 1 of the AMBPR. According to my records, 20 copies were
printed at the local copy center at a total cost of $13.65. 9 copies were
initially sold for $10.00 apiece, 4 copies were complimentary, 3 copies were
sold in January 1993 to Jesse Patrick for resale, and one more copy was sold
several years later."; how many
of these still survive? This is the
first I have seen! |

a fascinating read for
those interested in die varieties of early US silver & gold coins - very
highly recommended as a research catalyst/enhancer: the "outside the
box" theories will broaden your view of these early emissions; this
particular book is among the best condition examples I have seen...
essentially new condition... more scarce than most realize, as the books not
immediately sold were placed in a trailer for storage and damaged from water
exposure and discarded... |
